FEBRUARY 2018 - RELEVANT FOR: SOFTLINES
On 26 January 2018, the European Commission (EC) published Regulation (EU) 2018/1221 in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), amending Regulation (EU) No 1007/20112 on textile fibre names and related labelling and marking of the fibre composition of textile products.
This amendment will be effective from 15 February 2018.
Annexes I, II, VI, VIII and IX to Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 are amended and below are some notable highlights of the amendments:
New fibre name "polyacrylate" is added in Annex I.
While applying for a new textile fibre name, along with technical file, the manufacturer or any person acting on the manufacturer's behalf shall provide representative samples of the new pure textile fibre and the relevant textile fibre mixtures necessary for verifying the accuracy, robustness and repeatability of the proposed identification and quantification methods.
The quantity criteria (1 gram or less) has been removed for inclusive labelling requirements of sewing, mending and embroidery yarns presented for retail sale.
Some of the methods for quantitative analysis of certain binary textile fibre mixtures in Chapter 2 of Annex VIII has been amended.
