Body care products are an essential part of everyone's skin protection. From body cleansing products to body creams, manufacturers must ensure the quality, safety and performance of these products. Despite the increasingly stringent requirements for body care products, there are still substandard products in the market. With a series of regulations and guidance on cosmetics issued, such as the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act and Fair Packaging and Labeling Act in the US FDA, and Cosmetic Products Regulation 1223/2009 of the EU, for product manufacturers, and the comprehensive inspection of the finished products, some problems in the prodction process also need to be fully tested, such as organic impurities, heavy metal content, microorganisms, stability and so on. For consumers, it is impossible to judge what the specific ingredients of the product are and how they endanger health through simple senses. Alfa Chemistry's knowledgeable experts can provide you with comprehensive testing of various products that you have doubts, and professional analysis from raw materials to commercial products.

Aluminum (Al) contamination in cosmetic products, particularly body lotions, raises concerns regarding skin absorption and potential health risks. This study presents a high-resolution continuum source graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (HR-CS GF AAS) method for the precise determination of Al in commercial body lotions.
The most sensitive absorption line at 309.271 nm was utilized for accurate detection. Sample preparation involved suspending lotions in 0.3 mol L-1 nitric acid to facilitate analysis. To enhance atomization efficiency and minimize Al interactions with the graphite surface, various permanent modifiers were evaluated. Among them, 400 μg of zirconium (Zr) was determined to be the most effective modifier. The method achieved detection and quantification limits of 30 ng g-1 and 95 ng g-1, respectively.
Analysis of 15 commercial body lotions revealed Al concentrations ranging from 0.17 ± 0.05 μg g-1 to 11.8 ± 0.43 μg g-1. Analyte addition tests confirmed the method's accuracy, yielding recoveries between 103% and 110%, indicating minimal matrix interference. These findings underscore the importance of monitoring Al levels in personal care products to ensure consumer safety and regulatory compliance. The developed HR-CS GF AAS method provides a reliable and sensitive approach for aluminum determination in body lotions, aiding quality control and risk assessment in the cosmetics industry.
