There is a hot debate centering around the effects of growth hormones in meat on human health. Some people advocate for the hormones-injected meat because of the productivity in milk production and meat, which can meet the increasing need from meat market and achieve the profitability of the meat and dairy industries, while others insist that the residues of growth hormones in meat have human-health consequences. In 1960, diethylstilbestrol (DES), a synthetic estrogen drug, was found to increase the risk of vaginal confer in daughters of treated women. Moreover, lifetime exposure to natural steroid hormone estrogen is associated with the increased risk of breast cancer. Besides, the hormones in food will have the following effects on the human body. 1. Influence the nerve system. When people eat animal and plant foods containing a lot of hormones, they often appear too fast heart rate, panic, hand tremor, headache and other nerve center poisoning out of control; 2. induce tumors. Hormones in food can cause breast cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, thyroid cancer, vaginal cancer, testicular cancer, etc.; 3. affect the reproductive system, sexual development in advance, food additives contain hormones, easy to cause sexual development in advance, such as ovarian tumors, kidney gland tumors, or some central nervous precocious. However, in accordance with currently available scientific evidence, the hormones residue in the milk or meat of treated animals may be slightly higher than those remain in untreated animals, but the levels of hormones in milk or meat of treated animals are still within the normal range of natural variation. In addition, there is no scientific evidence to prove that drinking milk or eating meat from hormone-treated animals affects breast cancer risk. The risk of this hormone-containing food has not been fully clarified, and therefore it is necessary to detect hormone residues in foods for safety reasons.
