Pipeline is one of the main transportation ways for modern oil and gas products. However, as the medium for pipeline transportation is crude oil, light oil, liquefied gas, and other flammable, explosive, volatile, and easily electrostatically aggregated fluids, in the event of an accident, the consequences can be disastrous.
Accident consequences of oil and gas pipelines:
Shut down of oil and gas brings huge economic losses to downstream and social impact.
Casualties
Environmental pollution
In the coming decades, there will be a large number of oil and gas pipelines entering the aging period of their useful lives, and pipelines may enter the stage of high accidents. Therefore, in order to prevent and mitigate accident risks, preliminary site investigations and later analysis of oil and gas pipelines are essential. If you have the need of the site investigation, Alfa Chemistry will be very glad to help you out.
The purpose of site investigation analysis:
Finding security problems
Analyzing the reasons
Taking remedial measures
Improving Products
Oil and natural gas pipeline accident analysis
Natural gas leaks from the pipeline and affects normal gas transmission accidents. The danger of oil and natural gas leak:
Asphyxiation or poisoning
Fire or explosion
Related cases
August 2000, the natural Gas Pipeline (EI Paso natural Gas Company) in Carlsbad fractured. The released gas was ignited and continued to burn for 55 minutes. Twelve people were killed in the camp where the accident happened and three cars were burnt down. The direct loss was $998,296.
On August 6, 2002, a pipeline of natural gas exploded, causing a major fire in West Virginia.
In March 2006, a major oil spill occurred in the Prudhoe Bay area of northern Alaska. About 6,357 barrels of crude oil leaked from the pipeline and contaminated approximately 8,097 square meters of tundra.
On April 20, 2010, the oil spill in the Mexico attracted the attention of the international community. Many countries sent equipment and personnel to help deal with pollution as soon as possible.
On April 17, 2015, in Fresno, California, a local natural gas pipeline was destroyed, causing explosions and fires, and 11 people were injured.
On October 8, 2015, an explosion occurred at a natural gas plant in Louisiana in the southern United States, killing three workers and injuring two workers.
The cause of the accident
Corrosion
It is caused by microorganisms, moisture, chloride, oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide in the pipeline.
Third-party damage
Operating error
Material failure
Natural disasters
Destruction of other external forces
