Description

Erythritol is a new type of sweetener that is widely distributed in nature and found in mushrooms, melons, grapes, peaches and other fruits. Erythritol is a white crystalline four-carbon polyol compound with the chemical name of 1,2,3,4-butanetetetrol, its molecular formula is C4H10O4, melting point 126°C, boiling point 329-331°C, and its chemical properties are similar to those of sugar alcohols, such as sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol. It has a refreshing sweetness, not easy to absorb moisture, stable at high temperatures, wide pH range, dissolved in the mouth with a mild cool sensation, suitable for a variety of foods.

Main Functions

  • Erythritol has a pure sweetness that is about 70 to 80 percent that of sucrose. It can be mixed with other sweeteners to improve and harmonize taste qualities.
  • It has no effect on blood glucose or blood insulin levels and therefore may be an effective alternative to sugar for diabetics.
  • It has a high human tolerance. In small doses, erythritol does not usually cause laxative effects and flatulence or bloating.
  • It is stable under heat, acid and alkali conditions, and the applicable acid and alkali range is pH2-12, which meets the acid and alkali requirements of general food. Tests show that erythritol will not decompose and change color at high temperature of 160°C, avoiding coking of food during high temperature processing.
