Main Functions

More and more evidence shows that aloe emodin has a variety of pharmacological effects, including antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-parasitic, laxative, neuroprotective and hepatoprotective activities [1]. These pharmacological properties can be used to treat different diseases, such as influenza virus, psoriasis, inflammation, glaucoma, Alzheimer's disease, malaria, sepsis, type 2 diabetes, and liver fibrosis. In recent years, aloe emodin has also been regarded as a promising antineoplastic agent. Its mechanism of action involves multiple pathways, including disruption of the cell cycle, induction of apoptosis, anti-metastasis, and enhancement of immune function [2].
