Synephrine is a phenolic amine, which was originally isolated as a synthetic product and used as a vasoconstrictor and bronchiectatic agent in pharmacology. In 1964, Stewart et al.first reported the presence of synephrine in citrus leaves [1]. Synephrine is the most active substance in Citrus aurantium and is the major natural source for the dietary supplements industry. As a sympathomimetic phenylethylamine derivative, it is often added to dietary supplements to lose weight or improve exercise performance.

Health Benefits

  • Helps With Weight Loss

Synephrine is useful in reducing fat mass in obese humans as it stimulates lipolysis and raises metabolic rate and oxidation of fat through increased thermogenesis [2].

  • Supports Athletic Performance

Synephrine comes primarily in the form of dietary supplements designed to support athletic performance. It can be used as an ingredient in pre-exercise stimulants.

  • Affects Appetite

Synephrine may also inhibit your appetite. By affecting certain neurotransmitters in the brain, it may help reduce hunger and make it easier for people to stick to a balanced diet.
