Health Benefits

  • Treats Cancer

In Asia, especially in Japan, Agaricus blazei Murill is the most commonly used adjuvant for the prevention and treatment of cancer after resection of major tumors. Mechanistic studies suggest that the antitumor activity of agaricus blazei extract may be related to induction of apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, inhibition of tumor-induced neovascularization, immunopotentiation and restoration of the tumor-suppressed host immune system [1].

  • Treats type 2 diabetes

Many mushroom extracts with antidiabetic effects have been widely reported and they have the potential to be excellent therapeutic agents for type 2 diabetes with fewer side effects. Agaricus blazei extract is a notable example. A study showed that agaricus blazei extract improved glucose uptake by HepG2 cells, thereby alleviating postprandial hyperglycemia. This study provides a strong rationale for further research on the use of agaricus blazei extract in the control of type 2 diabetes [2].

  • Supports the immune system

Agaricus blazei extract is often studied for its potential immunomodulatory effects. Some research suggests that the polysaccharides and β-glucans in the extract may help modulate and enhance the activity of immune cells, supporting overall immune system function.

  • Fights viral and bacterial infections

β-Glucan polysaccharides play a natural role in protecting agaricus blazei from invasive organisms. For this reason, agaricus blazei extract can be used medicinally by humans to fight against viral and bacterial infections.
