Application
Thulium(III) oxide (Tm2O3) serves multiple advanced applications due to its unique properties. This rare earth sesquioxide, with its greenish-white appearance and cubic structure, demonstrates a high melting point of approximately 2341°C. Although insoluble in water, it is slightly soluble in acidic environments and boasts a high dielectric constant of 12-13 as well as an energy band gap of 5 eV. Tm2O3 does not conduct electricity but has significant uses in fuel cells and oxygen generation systems owing to its chemical characteristics. It is also employed in the fields of glass, optical, and ceramic applications, and plays a crucial role in manufacturing portable X-ray transmission devices. Furthermore, thulium oxide is valuable as a nuclear reactor control material and, in its nanostructured form, acts as an efficient biosensor within medicinal chemistry. As a source of thulium, it holds potential in catalytic, electronic, optical, and electrochemical applications, making thulium(III) oxide essential in fostering technological advancements.
