Application
Gadolinium(III) fluoride is primarily utilized in the production of optical glass and serves as a dopant for Gadolinium Yttrium Garnets, which are used in microwave applications. This compound, appearing as a white powder, is essential in the fabrication of various optical components and acts as a substrate material for magneto-optical films. Additionally, Gadolinium(III) fluoride is employed in the synthesis of non-oxide glasses. It is important to note that upon heating or exposure to acids and acid fumes, it decomposes to release toxic gases, including fluorine, hydrogen fluoride vapors, and oxides of gadolinium.
