Application
Cerium(IV) hydroxide serves multiple purposes, primarily as a white powder used to produce cerium salts and is crucial in various industrial applications. As an opacifier, it imparts a yellow hue to glasses and enamels, enhancing their aesthetic appeal. Furthermore, it is an essential raw material in the production of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts, automotive catalysts, polishing powders, and special glasses. In the chemical industry, it enhances the efficiency of catalysts used in styrene production from methylbenzene, improving both catalytic reactivity and thermal stability within FCC catalysts that contain zeolites. Additionally, cerium(IV) hydroxide finds application in water treatment processes.
