TFA Removal Services

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a strong acid that is often used in the resin separation process during solid-phase peptide synthesis and to improve the efficiency of peptide high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) purification step. Despite the importance of TFA in peptide synthesis, residual TFA or fluoride is considered toxic and undesirable in peptides used in preclinical and clinical studies. If the residual TFA exceeds a certain concentration, it will not only affect the biochemical properties of the peptide, but also cause false positive results in downstream applications.

Typically, most custom peptides are delivered in the form of TFA salts, where the TFA content can be as high as 10-45%. In order to improve the accuracy of experimental results, it is very important to remove TFA before conducting certain experiments. Alfa Chemistry provides you with TFA removal services to help you remove free salts from samples. If you wish to further reduce the TFA concentration and improve the accuracy of experimental results, we usually recommend conversion to other salts, such as acetate and hydrochloride forms.

Our Services

Alfa Chemistry provides you with two types of TFA removal services. The specific service contents are as follows.

Service typeTFA residueSalt typeReportLead time
Guaranteed TFA removal< 1%Hydrochloride, Formate, AcetateProvided8 days
Standard TFA removal< 10%Hydrochloride, Formate, Acetate, PhosphateOptional2 days

Note: Lead time refers to the working day cycle.

For standard TFA removal services, if reporting is selected, an additional day will be added and the reporting fee will be paid.

Application Recommendations

Guaranteed TFA removal service is recommended for:

  • Cell-related experiments
  • Research on active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)
  • Industrial products
  • Hydrophilic peptides containing more basic residues

Standard TFA removal service is recommended for:

  • Cell-related experiments
  • Immunological research
  • Protein or peptide structure research
