About Protected Amino Acids

What are protected amino acids?

Protected amino acids refer to amino acid derivatives in which the functional groups of the amino acids react with other groups to block the activity of the amino acid functional groups.

What are the common amino protecting groups in the amino acids you provide?

The amino protecting groups we provide generally include fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl, tert-butyloxy carbonyl, carbobenzoxy, acetyl, benzoyl, benzyl, etc.

What are the common carboxyl protecting groups in the amino acids you provide?

The carboxyl protecting groups we provide generally include tert-butyl, methyl, ethyl, benzyl, allyl, p-methoxybenzyl, etc.

What is the purpose of protected amino acids?

The protection of amino acids in peptide chemical synthesis is very critical and directly determines the success of the synthesis. By protecting reactive groups (such as amino, carboxyl or side chain active groups), side reactions during peptide synthesis can be prevented and the reaction can be selectively carried out at the desired position, thereby gradually assembling the peptide chain in a controlled manner.

About Peptides

How long does it take for your peptide synthesis service?

Depending on the length and difficulty of the peptide sequence, the synthesis time varies. The routine peptide synthesis time is about 2 weeks. At the same time, Alfa Chemistry provides rapid peptide synthesis services, which can be delivered in as fast as 3 days.

What is the longest length of peptides you can synthesize?

Alfa Chemistry can synthesize long peptides with a sequence of up to 200 amino acids. We can provide peptides in milligram to kilogram quantities with a purity of up to 99%.

In what form do your peptides ship? What data reports are provided?

Alfa Chemistry's peptides are shipped in the form of lyophilized powders and can be packaged according to customer needs. Each peptide is provided with MS and HPLC reports. In addition, Alfa Chemistry can also provide dissolution test reports and endotoxin test reports.

What does peptide purity mean?

Peptide purity refers to the percentage of target peptides in all peptides in the sample. For example, a purity of >95% means that 95% of the net peptide content (not total weight) in the lyophilized powder is your target peptide, and the other 5% is non-target peptides that were brought into the product during the purification process.

What is net peptide content?

Generally, a peptide lyophilized powder sample contains not only peptides, but also some other substances, such as water, solvents absorbed by the peptides, counterions and salts. The total weight of the peptide refers to the weight of all these mixtures. The net peptide content is relative to non-peptide substances, counterions and water. After removing these, the remaining is the net peptide content.

What method do you use for peptide synthesis?

Alfa Chemistry has independently developed peptide synthesis technology, including solid phase synthesis technology, liquid phase synthesis technology, microwave synthesis technology and fragment condensation technology. We will flexibly select the appropriate synthesis technology or combination based on the characteristics of the customer's peptide sequence.

How to deal with problems encountered in peptide synthesis?

Each peptide has special properties, and sometimes the expected results cannot be achieved during the synthesis process. If Alfa Chemistry cannot successfully deliver the peptide sample due to some special reasons, the technicians will communicate with you in time.
