Tetracyclines Residue Testing Service

Abuse of tetracycline antibiotics or failure to observe the drug withdrawal period may cause drug residues and affect the health of consumers. Alfa Chemistry provides an analysis platform that can accurately identify or quantify residual tetracycline antibiotics in food samples.

Tetracycline antibiotics are a class of broad-spectrum antibiotics produced by Streptomyces. Compared with other antibiotics, they have a wide range of activities and low cost, and they are a class of frequently used compounds. Currently, there are more than 20 tetracyclines available. Among them, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline and doxycycline are the most common veterinary drugs.

Tetracycline antibiotics are often used in livestock and poultry, aquatic biology and other industries to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases in animals. In addition to treatment purposes, an appropriate amount of antibiotics can also promote animal growth, increase feed conversion rate, and bring considerable economic benefits.

However, the irrational use of antibiotics leads to residues in animal-derived foods. If people eat food and its products with residual drugs for a long time, it will endanger human health. The toxic reaction of tetracycline drugs is mainly manifested in the damage to the stomach, intestines, and liver, as well as allergic reactions and teratogenic effects. In addition, the problem of bacterial resistance caused by the abuse of antibiotics may also affect the treatment of livestock and poultry, and may even affect the treatment and rehabilitation of human diseases.

In order to avoid the emergence of more antibiotic resistance, protect the health of consumers, and comply with the antibiotic residue testing standards for export trade, Alfa Chemistry can provide you with a tetracycline residue testing platform. We strictly abide by the quality assurance/quality control plans and regulatory requirements of each country and region to provide you with support. Including but not limited to the following standards and methods: ISO, FDA, AOAC, EU regulations.

Tetracyclines Residue Testing Platform

Sample preparation method:

  • QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe)
  • Liquid-liquid extraction
  • Solid-phase extraction

Sample detection technology:

  • Thin layer chromatography (TLC): For samples for which quantitative determination is not required. Fast qualitative requirements can be achieved.
  • Spectrophotometry:
Tetracycline has a strong absorption in the ultraviolet region. Under certain conditions, its content can be quantitatively determined by measuring the absorbance. Tetracycline reacts with some transition metal ions to form colored complexes. Tetracycline and the electron acceptor substance benzoquinones undergo a charge transfer reaction to form a charge transfer complex. Quantitative determination based on changes in the absorption spectrum of tetracycline.
  • Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS): Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography combined with triple quadrupole.

Acceptable Samples: All foods and food products.

Turnaround Time: 7-10 working days.

At Alfa Chemistry, our analytical scientists are experienced in tetracyclines residue testing. After communicating with you about the testing scheme, we will implement it within a quick turnaround time and provide you with an analysis report.
