Karl Fischer (KF) Moisture Testing is a widely used technique in the chemical industry to measure the amount of water present in a sample. It was first developed by the chemist Karl Fischer in the 1930s, and since then has become the gold standard for measuring moisture content in a range of materials. KF Moisture Testing works by reacting the water present in a sample with iodine and sulfur dioxide, and then measuring the amount of iodine that is consumed in the reaction.
Advantages
High Accuracy. This is because the reaction between the water and the iodine is very specific, and does not interfere with other components in the sample.
High Sensitive. KF Moisture Testing is very sensitive, and can detect very small amounts of water, down to parts per million (ppm).
High Speed. The reaction can be completed in just a few minutes, making it a very efficient way to test for moisture content. This is important in industries where time is of the essence, such as in the pharmaceutical industry where quick results can be critical for quality control
Versatility. KF Moisture Testing is a very versatile technique, which can be used to measure the moisture content in a wide range of materials, such as solids, liquids, and gases. This makes it a very useful tool for many different industries.
