On May 22, 2019, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Aurora Packing Company, Inc. was recalling approximately 62,112 pounds of raw ground beef because these products may be contaminated by E. coli O157:H7.
The recalled products were packaged on April 19, 2019, with the USDA FSIS mark number “EST.788”, and distributed nationwide.
It is known that E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps when exposed to organisms. Although most people recover within a week, some people may have a kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). There are no reports of adverse reactions to the consumption of these products. The USDA FSIS advises consumers not to consume the above recalled products and should throw them away or return them to the place for purchase.
