Limits set on substances of concern

The Georgian government has published a technical regulation on the safety of toys.
The new rules are based on the EU's toy safety Directive and include specific limits for chemicals used in toys for children up to 36 months and those intended for placing in the mouth.
The regulation will enter into force on 1 January 2021.
National authorities around Europe have been investigating the presence of hazardous chemicals in toys. In December, the Danish EPA conducted checks that detected phthalates in four toys from a sample of 18 purchased from online stores.
Earlier last year, the European Commission published two amendments to the EU toy safety Directive which lower aluminium content in toys and adopt specific limit values for formaldehyde.
In other news, Belarus, Georgia and Kazakhstan have been pressing on with efforts to create a joint chemicals and mixtures management register by 2021.
