Wafer refers to a silicon chip used in the fabrication of a silicon semiconductor integrated circuit. Since its shape is circular, it is called wafer. Wafer is a carrier used in the production of integrated circuits. Generally speaking, wafers refer to single crystal silicon wafers. The single crystal silicon wafer is extracted and refined by ordinary silica sand. After a series of measures of dissolution, purification and distillation, a single crystal silicon rod is prepared. After the single crystal silicon rod is polished and sliced, it becomes a round crystal. Wafers are the most commonly used semiconductor materials. They are available in 4, 5, 6 and 8 inch diameters. Recently, 12 inches and even larger specifications have been de veloped. The larger the wafer, the more ICs can be produced on the same wafer, which reduces costs; but the requirements for material technology and production technology are higher. It is generally believed that the larger the diameter of the silicon wafer, the better the technology of the fab. In the process of producing wafers, the yield is an important condition. The identification of wafer is inseparable from the professional testing laboratory.
