Human pepsinogen II protein

Catalog NumberNZs000944

CategoryZymogens

Description Human Pepsinogen II is a proenzyme form of pepsin C, secreted by gastric chief and mucous neck cells. It shares structural similarity with Pepsinogen I but exhibits a broader distribution in gastric and duodenal tissues. The protein remains inactive until converted to pepsin C in acidic conditions. Synonyms Pepsinogen C, Pepsinogen II, PG II, PGC
Molecular Weight 40000+
Purity > 90% by SDS-PAGE
Appearance White to off-white powder
Application Applied in studies of gastrointestinal disorders, Helicobacter pylori infection, and gastric mucosal pathology. Also used in comparative enzymology and protein activation research.
Biochemical/Physiological Action Upon activation by gastric acid, Pepsinogen II forms pepsin C, which hydrolyzes peptide bonds during digestion. The serum ratio of Pepsinogen I to II reflects gastric mucosal status and is a clinical indicator of gastric function.
Storage Conditions It is recommended to store this product at -20°C.
