Human pepsinogen I protein

Human pepsinogen I protein

Human pepsinogen I protein

Catalog NumberNZs000943

CategoryZymogens

Description Human Pepsinogen I is the inactive zymogen precursor of pepsin A, a key digestive protease secreted by gastric chief cells. It is synthesized as a single-chain polypeptide and undergoes autocatalytic cleavage in acidic environments to form the active enzyme. Pepsinogen I is predominantly localized in the gastric fundic mucosa and serves as a biomarker for gastric secretory function. For research use only. Not intended for human or therapeutic use.
Synonyms Pepsinogen A, Pepsinogen I, PG I, PGA
Molecular Weight 40000+
Purity > 90% by SDS-PAGE
Appearance White to off-white powder
Application Used in biochemical assays and diagnostic research for gastric disorders, especially in assessing gastric mucosal integrity, atrophic gastritis, and gastric cancer risk. It is also applied in zymogen activation and protein folding studies.
Biochemical/Physiological Action Under acidic conditions, Pepsinogen I converts to pepsin, initiating proteolytic digestion of dietary proteins. The enzyme functions optimally at low pH, cleaving peptide bonds to promote nutrient absorption.
Storage Conditions It is recommended to store this product at -20°C.
