Description

Panaxadiol is a notable compound with multifaceted therapeutic properties, prominently recognized for its inhibitory effects on the hepatitis B virus. Additionally, it exhibits significant anticancer, cardioprotective, anti-arrhythmic, and antioxidative activities. A key aspect of Panaxadiol's action is its ability to inhibit Ca2+ channels, resulting in a reduced duration and probability of these channels being open, thereby demonstrating considerable anti-arrhythmic potential. In cancer research, Panaxadiol selectively disrupts the cell cycle in human cancer cell lines. It efficiently inhibits DNA synthesis, with IC50 values between 0.8 to 1.2 μM in SK-HEP-1 and HeLa cells. This compound achieves cell cycle arrest at the G1/S phase by selectively elevating p21WAF1/CIP1 levels, which subsequently down-regulates Cyclin A–Cdk2 activity, highlighting its potential as a targeted cancer therapy.
