Description
Ginsenoside Rk3 (G-Rk3) is an important and rare saponin in heat-treated ginseng, which is generated from Ginsenoside Rg1 and has a smaller molecular weight.
Ginsenoside Rk3 appears to be promising compound that could prove useful for potential anti-type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), antitumor effect, anticancer, anti-anemia effect, etc. For instance, Ginsenoside Rk3 mediates hepatic gluconeogenesis and lipid accumulation via activating the AMPK/Akt signaling pathway in HFD/STZ induced T2DM mice [1]; Ginsenoside Rk3 inhibits liver injury, fibrosis and cirrhosis. Meanwhile, it reduces the inflammatory response by decreasing the expression of inflammatory cytokines, inducing apoptosis, and blocking the cell cycle [2]; in addition, it significantly inhibits TNF-α-induced NF-κB transcriptional activity.
