Description
Ginsenoside Rg3 (G-Rg3), a triterpenoid saponin, is a bacterial metabolite of ginsenoside Rg5, which consists of a tetracyclic triterpenoid aglycon and a glycoside.
Recent studies have shown that Ginsenoside Rh3 possesses a variety of beneficial properties such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant damage, anti-apoptotic, anti-cancer and anti-tumor effects. For example, Ginsenoside Rh3 exerts anti-inflammatory effects in microglia by regulating the 5′-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase signaling pathway; it protects retinal pigment epithelial cells and retinal ganglion cells from UV by activating Nrf2. It inhibits GM-CSF expression in UVB-irradiated keratinocytes; it also has a renoprotective effect by inhibiting JNK and ERK mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling. [1,2].
