Description
Ginsenoside Rg2 (G-Rg2) is a protopanaxatriol that is more abundant in some Panax species (e.g., white and red Panax ginseng) than others.
Ginsenoside Rg2 exhibits various biological activities including but not limited to anti-myocardial fibrotic, vascular dementia-ameliorating, glucose- and fat metabolism-improving, antioxidant, antidepressant effects, etc. via various mechaniams [1]. For instance, the protective effect of Ginsenoside Rg2 against DOX-induced toxicity is associated with decreased production of ROS, downregulation of p53, and increased Akt phosphorylation (see figure 1) [2]. In addition, Ginsenoside Rg2 can inhibit the proliferation, migration, and phenotypic transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells induced by platelet derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB)–which may contribute to its anti-atherosclerotic role. Furthermore, it inhibits VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 expressions and reduces Aβ1-42 accumulation.
