Description
Ginsenoside Rf (G-Rf) is a trace ginsenoside among other diverse ginsenosides found in panax ginseng, which is classified as protopanaxatriol-type ginsenosides. Ginsenoside Rf is one of the biologically active saponins found in panax ginseng.
Ginsenoside Rf appears to be promising compound that could prove useful in anti-obesity, anti-nociceptive, anti-inflammatory treatments and it is a potential therapeutic agent for major depressive disorders. For instance, the treatment of Ginsenoside on 3T3-L1 adipocytes downregulates the expression levels of PPARg and perilipin, and also decreases the amount of lipid accumulated at different doses [1]. It has been proved that Ginsenoside Rf increases the mechanical withdrawal threshold significantly, with a curvilinear dose-response curve peaking at 1.5 mg/kg, and can decrease the lever of serum interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6, and tumor necrotizing factor-α [2]. Other mechanisms may include inhibition of N-type Ca2+ channel, upregulation of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression and Ki-67 expression, and so on.
