Description
Ginsenoside Rd is one of the main active components of ginseng. Its content varies among different wild ginsengs and ginseng parts, ranging from 0.02% ~ 1.66%. In addition, microbial enzymatic conversion has also become the main conversion method of Ginsenoside Rd due to its unique selectivity, mild reaction conditions and environmental compatibility (see figure 1) [1].
Ginsenoside Rd has been reported to have various biological activities, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anticancer, anti-metastatic, cardioprotective, and immunomodulatory activities. For instance, Chen [2] et al. found that the general effects of Ginsenoside Rd are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, inhibition of Ca2+ in-flux and protection of mitochondria, and through these pathways it can inhibit excitotoxicity, regulate nerve growth factor and promote nerve regeneration. In addition, it can inhibit TNF-α-induced NF-κB transcriptional activity, inhibit expression of COX-2 and iNOS mRNA and iNOS promoter activity.
