Aerogel Pipe Insulation Shells

Alfa Chemistry's aerogel pipe insulation shells are an innovative thermal insulation solution designed for both high- and low-temperature pipeline systems. The primary insulation material is nanoporous silica (SiO2) aerogel, and it is enhanced by a hybrid of inorganic fibers, which are custom pre-molded to your specifications. It's designed to be applied directly to the pipeline without any additional manual cutting or wrapping, so it significantly saves on labor time and installation costs. These aerogel insulation shells provide excellent thermal insulation for high-performance and space-constrained applications.

Technical Advantages

Exceptional Thermal Insulation Performance

The thermal conductivity of the aerogel shell is ≤ 0.020 W/(m·K) at 25°C, one of the lowest in the industry, and does not change significantly under working conditions (up to 650°C). By laminating aluminum foil, the shell can be used as a low-temperature insulation material, for example, for low-temperature and cryogenic pipes.

Pre-Molded, Seamless Design

Different from the traditional shell insulation, which is molded on-site, Alfa Chemistry's aerogel shells are pre-molded into complete cylindrical shells with pipe diameter in the factory, resulting in a seamless and convenient prefabricated product with no thermal bridges and low circumferential insulation.

Hydrophobic and Flame-Resistant

The aerogel pipe shell has a water repellency rate ≥ 99%, which effectively prevents water absorption and insulation aging. The flame retardancy of the aerogel shell reaches Class A1, which has the best fireproof level.

Robust Mechanical and Thermal Stability

With a compressive strength of 60 kPa at 10% deformation and up to 120 kPa at 25% deformation, the insulation maintains dimensional integrity under pressure. Its compression resilience is ≥ 90% after 5 minutes at 100 kPa, enabling repeated mechanical stress without structural compromise.

Durable and Eco-Friendly Composition

The aerogel shell is made of environmentally friendly, non-toxic, inorganic materials and will not produce toxic and harmful substances after long-term use.

Target Applications

  • Petrochemical and Steam Transport: Thermal insulation for heat transfer oil pipelines and steam lines.
  • Power Industry: Suitable for high-pressure and medium-pressure pipe insulation in power plants.
  • District Heating Systems: Reduces heat loss in long-distance heating pipelines.
  • Marine Engineering: Steam and exhaust insulation on ships.
  • Cryogenic Infrastructure: Insulation for small-diameter, low-temperature lines where minimal heat ingress is essential.

FAQs

1. Can the aerogel pipe shells be used for cryogenic applications below 0°C?

Yes. When laminated with aluminum foil, the shells offer excellent insulation for cryogenic systems, preventing heat ingress and condensation.

2. Are these shells suitable for high-moisture environments?

Absolutely. With a hydrophobicity rating of ≥ 99%, the shells repel water effectively and prevent moisture accumulation.

3. How are these aerogel shells installed?

They come in prefabricated cylindrical segments that match the pipe diameter. No cutting or wrapping is needed—installation is quick and uniform.

4. How long do these insulation shells typically last?

Thanks to their inorganic, stable structure, they offer extended service life with minimal degradation over time, even in harsh operating conditions.

5. Are the materials recyclable or eco-safe?

Yes. The components are non-toxic, inorganic, and compliant with environmental safety standards.

6. Can they be combined with other insulation systems?

Yes. They can be layered with additional materials like aluminum foil or jacketing systems based on application requirements.
