Oligo(lactic acid)-β-cyclodextrin (OLA-β-CD) is a specialized derivative of cyclodextrin, resulting from the conjugation of lactic acid moieties with β-cyclodextrin. This compound features the characteristic cyclic structure of cyclodextrin, wherein certain hydroxyl groups have been substituted by lactic acid groups. OLA-β-CD combines the biodegradable properties of OLA with the unique molecular structure of β-CD. β-CD, known for its ability to form inclusion complexes, enhances the molecular encapsulation capabilities of the compound. The incorporation of lactic acid enhances the biocompatibility of OLA-β-CD within biological systems, enabling it to degrade safely and predictably. Moreover, these lactic acid groups play a crucial role in modifying the solubility and molecular recognition properties of the compound, thereby expanding its utility. This compound is commonly used in drug delivery and biomedical applications.
