Product Description

Menthol-cyclodextrin-complex, abbreviated as menthol-CD-complex, is an inclusion complex obtained from menthol and CD molecules.

Product Description

Menthol is a monoterpenoid, naturally found in peppermint and other mint plants, but it can also be chemically synthesized. It is a waxy, clear or white crystalline substance, which is solid at room temperature and melts slightly above. Menthol has local anesthetic and counterirritant qualities, giving a noticeable cooling sensation. Therefore, it is widely used to relieve minor pain and irritation, and can be found in throat lozenges, intranasal inhalers, lotions, pain creams, and many other products. For example, it can be added to tobacco to reduce the harshness of cigarette smoke and the irritation of nicotine.

Product Description
  • Reasons for developing our product

Menthol is volatile and not resistant to high temperatures, so it is not suitable for use in processing processes that require high temperatures, such as food and cigarette processing. Menthol also has the disadvantages of low solubility in water and poor absorption. Additionally, menthol can be somewhat irritating when used on the skin. Chemical burns may even occur when high concentrations of menthol are applied to the skin. These shortcomings limit the application of menthol in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

  • Advantages of our product

Our products are formed by encapsulating menthol molecules in the CD cavity, which greatly improves the stability of menthol and overcomes its shortcomings of easy volatilization and sublimation. Moreover, choosing water-soluble CD as a host molecule improves the solubility of menthol in water and addresses the problem of poor absorption of this molecule. In a word, this inclusion compound overcomes the shortcomings of using menthol alone, while retaining its original efficacy and cooling sensation, which is useful for treating minor pains and irritations.

Applications

The application of this CD-based menthol inclusion complex is the optimization and expansion of menthol uses. Menthol-CD inclusion complex overcomes the problems of poor solubility, instability and easy volatilization of menthol, making it easier to be used as an excipient in a variety of product dosage forms.

  • Menthol-CD inclusion complex can be used as an additive in a variety of products, such as skin care products, cosmetics, oral health care products, pharmaceuticals, and air fresheners.
  • Menthol-CD inclusion complex helps to protect the skin from irritation caused by menthol in the skin care field.
  • Menthol-CD inclusion complex also can be added to products, such as beverages, chewing gum, and tobacco.
