CONTACT USCyclodextrin (CD) is the general name for a series of cyclic oligosaccharides generated from amylose under the action of CD glycosyltransferase. The molecule is shaped like a hollow cone, with a hydrophilic outer cavity and a hydrophobic inner cavity. Due to its unique structure and properties, CD can be used as a chemical reagent. It is employed in several areas of chemistry, including chemical synthesis, analysis, and catalysis.
In the aqueous reaction system, CD can provide a good hydrophobic environment for hydrophobic substrates and promote the substrates to enter the aqueous phase to react. Therefore, it is widely used in some organic synthesis reactions performed in the aqueous phase, such as oxidation, addition, ring-opening, and substitution reactions.
On the other hand, native and modified CDs have appropriate rigidity and appropriately sized chiral hydrophobic cavities, which can serve as molecular receptors and co-receptors to recognize various organic or inorganic molecules by forming host-guest complexes. Therefore, it also plays an important role in analytical chemistry, especially in chromatographic analysis to separate various isomers and enantiomers.
Due to its inclusion nature, native CD or chemically modified CD can be combined with a metal catalyst to form a co-catalytic system. This co-catalytic system has better catalytic performance than the original catalyst, enabling it to participate in various catalytic reactions.
