Product Description

Biotin-cyclodextrin-complex is a multifunctional molecule formed by combining cyclodextrin with biotin. Cyclodextrins are a class of cyclic oligosaccharides typically composed of six to eight glucose units linked together in a ring structure through α-1,4 glycosidic bonds. They possess a hydrophobic inner cavity and a hydrophilic outer surface, which allow them to encapsulate hydrophobic small molecules, thereby enhancing their solubility and stability in aqueous environments. Biotin, a naturally occurring vitamin-like molecule, is known for its ability to form high-affinity non-covalent complexes with streptavidin or biotin-binding proteins. By integrating the molecular encapsulation capability of cyclodextrins with the specific recognition function of biotin, the biotin-cyclodextrin-complex emerges as a versatile molecule. This complex finds extensive application in various fields including the modification of biomaterials, molecular recognition and capture, and as a nanoscale drug delivery vehicle.

Applications

  • Biomaterial modification. The biotin-cyclodextrin-complex can form stable coatings on surfaces such as metals or nanomaterials. The biotin end enables the grafting of proteins, enzymes, or fluorescent markers, thus functionalizing the material.
  • Molecular recognition and capture. The biotin-cyclodextrin-complex can be immobilized on the surfaces of microspheres, nanoparticles, or chips. Through the high-affinity biotin-avidin interaction, it can effectively capture target molecules. This capability makes it especially useful for applications such as ELISA, immunochromatography, and microarray analysis, where precise identification and detection of biomolecules are crucial.
  • Nanodrug delivery. The cyclodextrin component of the biotin-cyclodextrin-complex is adept at encapsulating drug molecules, while the biotin moiety can specifically target and bind to antibodies or cell surface receptors. This dual functionality allows for precise delivery and controlled release of therapeutic agents, enhancing the efficacy and reducing the side effects of nanodrug formulations.
