Azelaic acid-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin, abbreviated as azelaic acid-HP-β-CD, is an inclusion complex obtained from azalaic acid and HP-β-CD.

Product Description

Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid molecule with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which inhibits and kills a variety of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria that cause acne. It acts as an exfoliant to promote skin cell turnover and unclogs pores. When applied topically, azelaic acid reduces free fatty acid and lipid formation on the skin, which is useful for treating skin diseases such as acne vulgaris and papulopustular rosacea. Moreover, azelaic acid inhibits tyrosine, which reduces pigmentation, so it's particularly useful for dark-skinned people who have acne spots that leave persistent brown marks or suffer from melasma.

Azelaic acid is safe and suitable for most people. However, those with very sensitive skin may find it irritating to apply. In addition to causing dryness and irritation of the skin, high-concentration azelaic acid products may have an irritating effect on the eyes, mucous membranes, and upper respiratory tract. Besides, the poor water solubility of azelaic acid makes it difficult to formulate this substance for topical applications [1].
