Application
The Zinc-Copper couple, containing 1-3% copper, serves several important functions in chemistry and dermatology. It is a key reagent in the Simmons-Smith cyclopropanation reaction and the Reformatsky reaction. Its chemical properties make it ideal for the selective, stereospecific reduction of alkynes to cis-alkenes and for the deiodination of iodotributylstannylalkanes. Additionally, when used with a free-radical initiator, it effectively promotes the formylation of perfluoroalkyl iodides with DMF, yielding fluorinated aldehydes in high quantities. Beyond its chemical applications, the Zinc-Copper couple is also utilized in the field of dermatology.
