Application

Titanium(II) oxide is a versatile compound with various applications, primarily utilized for vacuum deposition. Beyond this, it serves as a key ingredient in sunscreens and UV-blocking cosmetics, protecting both skin and materials. Its utility extends to varnishes, wood preservatives, textile fibers, and packaging films due to its opacifying properties. In industrial contexts, Titanium(II) oxide functions as a paint pigment, welding rod flux, and in optical coatings. It also plays a role as a catalyst and in crafting ceramic finish coats, plastics, elastomers, coated fabrics, printing inks, roofing granules, and in glass glazes. Additionally known as titanium monoxide, this compound undergoes transformation upon heating in air, changing into other forms of titanium oxides as the temperature increases: transitioning to Ti2O3 at 200°C, to Ti3O5 between 250-350°C, and to TiO2 at temperatures around 350°C. Despite its numerous applications, it is recognized as a weakly basic oxide with no significant industrial use on its own.
