Tetraphenylphosphonium bromide, also known as TPP, TPP-Br, TPPB, and TPPBr, is a versatile quaternary phosphonium salt presented as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It finds extensive applications in various fields due to its properties. Primarily, it is employed in pharmaceuticals and serves as an accelerator and adhesion promoter for fluoroelastomers. Additionally, it acts as a curative for polyacrylate polymers, effectively extending their shelf life and reducing mold fouling. Highly soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohols, TPPB plays a significant role as a supporting electrolyte for the electroreduction of buckminsterfullerene. Moreover, it is effective in the extraction of heavy metals from aqueous solutions by forming ion-association complexes.
