This versatile compound serves as a powerful anisotropic etchant for silicon, finding significant roles in semiconductor manufacturing for etching silicon chips, as well as in the development of photoresists during photolithography processes. In the realm of organic silicon, it catalyzes the production of dimethyl silicone oil and related products, while ensuring minimal pollution to the end products. As a base, it participates in chemical purification by aiding the precipitation of metal elements without leaving ash, and it functions as a brightening and cleaning agent for computer silicon wafers. Additionally, tetramethylammonium hydroxide is employed in chemical analysis as a polarographic reagent, in the synthesis of ferrofluid as a surfactant to prevent nanoparticle aggregation, and as a structure-directing agent during the synthesis of zeolites.
