Application
Tantalum Carbide Nanoparticles, known for their exceptional hardness and chemical resistance, serve as a crucial component in enhancing the performance of cutting tools and cemented carbide tools. With a hardness of 1800 kg/sq mm and a resistivity of 30 μΩ?cm at room temperature, these nanoparticles provide a robust solution for applications demanding high durability and thermal shock resistance. Produced through the direct reaction of carbon with tantalum scrap or tantalum pentoxide at temperatures reaching 1,900 °C, they are widely used to improve the cutting edge of machine tools. When integrated into tungsten carbide-cobalt-based tools, even in small quantities (0.2-2 wt %), they effectively reduce grain growth, enhancing tool lifespan and efficiency. Furthermore, the addition of 2-15 wt % tantalum carbide significantly boosts a tool's resistance to cratering and oxidation. Combining tantalum carbide with tungsten carbide in a nickel, cobalt, and/or chromium matrix creates a formulation that provides outstanding corrosion and wear resistance, nearly rivaling that of platinum. This makes it ideal for manufacturing nozzles, orifice plates, and valve components.
