Application

(-)-Sparteine is designed for managing certain cardiac arrhythmias, effectively targeting sinoatrial and atrial tachycardias, atrial extrasystoles, and ventricular arrhythmias. It has a notable action of not extending ECG times in vivo, despite its ability to prolong the myocardial refractory period in vitro. As a strongly basic, viscous liquid, it is characterized by a boiling point around 180°C and a density of 1.02 at 20°C. (-)-Sparteine is slightly soluble in water but dissolves readily in alcohol, ether, or chloroform. Derived from various species of Lupinus, Cytisus, and Spartium, it also has applications as an oxytocic agent.
