Application
Sodium tetrachloroaurate (III) dihydrate is a versatile orange-yellow crystalline compound with a broad range of applications. It finds its purpose primarily as a gold catalyst in chemical synthesis, notably aiding in the removal of tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl (TBS) protecting groups, and demonstrating selectivity among various ethers, including aromatic TBS and aliphatic triisopropylsilyl ethers. Additionally, in the presence of excess catalyst, it enables the transformation of TBS ethers into 4-methoxybenzyl or methyl ethers in a single step. Beyond its catalytic roles, sodium tetrachloroaurate (III) dihydrate is utilized in photography, glass staining, porcelain decoration, and medicine, including applications in chemotherapy treatments.
