Application
Neodymium(III) hydroxide serves primarily as a catalyst and is instrumental in the production of glass, crystals, and capacitors. Known for imparting delicate hues to glass, it ranges from pure violet to wine-red and warm gray, enhancing the aesthetic appeal. The material also impacts light transmission through the glass by producing remarkably sharp absorption bands. Beyond its decorative use, it plays a functional role in CRT displays by improving the contrast between reds and greens. When subjected to heat between 300°C and 350°C, Neodymium(III) hydroxide converts to a grayish-brown 2Nd2O3·H2O. Further heating results in the transformation into Nd2O3·H2O. Its ability to color glass with a striking purple tint makes it a valued component in glass manufacturing.
