Application
Molybdenum(VI) tetrachloride oxide is a green powder that is sensitive to moisture and volatile at ordinary temperatures. It serves multiple purposes in chemical applications. Primarily, it is utilized to prepare a binary metal catalyst (MoOCl4-n-BuLi) which is effective in the living polymerization of various acetylenes. Additionally, it acts as an oxidant in the aromatization of Hantzsch-1,4-dihydropyridines, and serves as a molybdenum precursor in the creation of nafion-Mo composite materials, which are used as catalysts in synthesizing nitrones through the reaction of primary amines with aldehydes.
