This reagent, demonstrated by the MacMillan lab, operates effectively under a dual catalytic copper/photoredox system, showcasing a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. It is particularly adept at converting various 5-membered and 6-membered heteroaryl halides into their corresponding trifluoromethylheteroarenes under mild conditions. For optimal performance, the Mes-Umemoto reagent should be used in combination with supersilanol (902489) and either Ir photocatalyst (902217 or 902225).
