Application

Manganese(III) fluoride (MnF3) is a red/purplish solid that serves as a powerful fluorinating agent, primarily used to convert hydrocarbons into fluorocarbons in organic synthesis. Produced through the fluorination of manganese(III) iodide, MnF3 can also be synthesized by reacting MnF2 in hydrogen fluoride with fluorine. It remains stable up to a decomposition pressure lower than 10.1325 kPa at 600°C, releasing fluorine when heated. As a versatile chemical, MnF3 reacts with elements like sulfur, boron, and silicon, as well as compounds such as phosphorus trichloride and carbon tetrachloride, making it an essential agent in various organic reactions.
