Application
Iron(III) phosphate dihydrate (FePO4 x 2H2O) is a versatile white powder primarily used as a catalyst in several chemical syntheses. It facilitates the production of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones and thiones through a one-pot, three-component Biginelli reaction involving aldehydes, β-ketoesters, and urea or thiourea. Additionally, it is instrumental in the oxidative dehydrogenation of methyl iso-butarate (MIB) to produce methyl methacrylate (MMA). This compound also plays a crucial role in the creation of carbon-coated lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), which serves as a cathode material in lithium-ion batteries, and is an essential component in manufacturing phosphate glass fibers.
