Indium(I) chloride serves as a versatile and essential component in various advanced materials and processes. As a golden yellow powder, it is sensitive to atmospheric oxygen and moisture, with an enthalpy of fusion measured at 17.20 kJ/mol. This compound can be synthesized by passing InCl3 vapor over indium metal. Primarily, it is utilized in the preparation of cage-like dinuclear complexes, such as In-cyclodiphosphazanes, which exhibit significant metal-metal interactions. Additionally, indium(I) chloride plays a crucial role in semiconductor doping, phosphor production, and the creation of compound semiconductors, including ITO thin films. It also serves as a fundamental raw material in the formulation of organic indium compounds.
