Application
The Hydrido(dimethylphosphinous acid-kP)[hydrogen bis(dimethylphosphinito-kP)]platinum(II) ghaffar-parkins catalyst is designed to facilitate the efficient hydration of nitriles to amides, a reaction crucial for complex multi-step organic syntheses. This catalyst operates by adding phosphine oxide to nitriles, effectively converting even hindered and acid/base sensitive nitriles without further hydrolysis to acids, as the amide is released from the metal coordination sphere. It offers mild reaction conditions with a turnover frequency ranging from 16 to 380 h-1, influenced by steric factors. For best performance, it is important to exclude any coordinating anions, particularly cyanide and halide, from the reaction environment.
