Application
Germanium(II) Iodide serves multiple purposes as a versatile chemical reagent. Primarily, it is utilized to achieve high yields of germanium nanocrystals, an essential component in semiconductor technology. This yellow to gold crystalline substance demonstrates notable reactivity, forming stable ionic adducts with carbenes and facilitating the synthesis of allylgermanes upon reaction with allylstannanes. Additionally, it enables the formation of homoallylic alcohols through its reaction with allyl bromide and carbonyl compounds, in the presence of zinc iodide. While remaining stable in dry air, it undergoes hydrolysis in moist environments and disintegrates on melting, yet it can be sublimated in a vacuum at 240°C. Germanium(II) Iodide's solubility is diverse, dissolving in cold water and various acids, making it a valuable compound in chemical synthesis and material science.

Highly Efficient for Nanocrystal Synthesis

I used Alfa Chemistry's Germanium(II) Iodide for research, and it produced an excellent yield of germanium nanocrystals. The dissolution in cold water was straightforward, and the stability in dry air was advantageous.
