Dilauryldimethylammonium Bromide is designed primarily for use as an effective phase transfer catalyst and as a versatile surface-active agent. Beyond its use as a catalyst, it serves as a reliable floor disinfectant. As a double-chain cationic surfactant, it offers diverse applications, such as facilitating the synthesis of gold nanoclusters and nanocubes, and the formation of supersaturated reverse micelles and microemulsions, which provide structured reaction environments crucial for synthesizing barium sulfate. Additionally, it can modify calcium montmorillonite through direct ion-exchange, producing thermally stable organoclay. Its co-surfactant properties also allow for the production of multilamellar vesicular silica with precise control over layer quantities.
