Dichloro[rac-ethylenebis(4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-indenyl)]zirconium(IV) primarily serves as an effective catalyst in a wide array of chemical reactions. It appears as a white to pale yellow powder and is notable for its role in enantioselective methylalumination of monosubstituted alkenes. As a Kaminsky-type catalyst, when used with the co-catalyst methylaluminoxane (MAO), it exhibits exceptionally high activity in the polymerization of various olefins including ethylene, propylene, and styrene. Additionally, it's instrumental in facilitating regiochemistry in Negishi carboaluminations, diastereoselective intramolecular olefin alkylations, asymmetric carbomagnesiation, the reduction of esters to alcohols, and the enantioselective synthesis of allylic amines.
