This red solid is particularly valuable in the preparation of nucleosides, which function as ectonucleotidase inhibitors, and is extensively used in facilitating Suzuki and Stille coupling reactions. It effectively catalyzes both carbon-carbon (C-C) and carbon-nitrogen (C-N) coupling reactions. The catalyst is highly effective in cross-coupling reactions involving sec-alkyl and n-alkyl Grignard reagents, where it achieves high yield and selectivity. Furthermore, it catalyzes the Suzuki coupling of aryl boronic esters with [11C]methyl iodide, resulting in functionalized [11C]toluene derivatives, and the Kumada cross-coupling of 1,3,5-tribromobenzene with Grignard reagents to synthesize star-shaped oligothiophenes.
